Show of hands for anyone who wishes they had a larger home? Us too! A larger space through renovation isn’t always feasible, but that’s doesn’t mean you can’t do the next best thing: create the impression of larger rooms! We know a few simple tricks for fooling the untrained eye into making rooms appear bigger, maybe these tips will work for your home. Make every inch count!
To start, a bright white wall contrasted with darker colours create a clever illusion of deeper space. Never fails!
Next (and we can’t stress this enough), use light light light! Open up your interiors with gorgeous natural sunlight. Alternatively, carefully placed lamps with soft-light bulbs can work absolute wonders too.
Nothing fills a room up quite like too much clutter. Minimize art on the walls, don’t have too much going on in any one place and try and keep the floor as clear as you can.
Draw the eye to a focal piece in the room – when you’re talking about a bedroom, focus attention the bed. For a dining room, make the table central to that space.
How about doubling up areas? Position a mirror to add more depth. It will also help spread light throughout the room!
Finally, arrange furniture in a way that optimizes the space you have. Ask yourself if anything could serve as multi-functional (like a linen chest as a coffee table in your living room). The more creative you are, the larger the space opens up.
